Exhibition in Cincinnati

MAY, 2024
For the second time in as many years, Marina Cutler brings MCs Art of Living to Cincinnati to share yet another great exhibition in one of the South’s most inspiring and original Hotels, 21C.

Situated in the heart of downtown Cincinnati, 21C Museum Hotel is a boutique Hotel and Museum all in one. It doesn’t just have art as décor, it has a complete, properly curated museum with cutting edge 21st century works.

Showing until September, the present exhibition, The Future is Female, includes some of the most thought provoking, creative, reflective language and works by both global and US artists such as Stephanie Hirsch, (a personal favorite) Alison Saar, Lesley Dill and Gaela Erwin.

Should you be traveling in the Mid-South, and stopping in Cincinnati this summer, I highly encourage you to “experience” 21C Museum Hotel and this current exhibition, The Future is Female.

I hope it will inspire you to explore and find your own Art of Living.
Cheers, MC

PLANNING:

This hotel has enough to offer should you just be staying for a short visit, but if you have a few days and want to grab a little more “Cincinnati” then here are a few suggestions.

Scope out the Aronoff Center for the Arts, which is just across the street to see what might be playing, or peruse the schedule in advance to see what performance is on at the Cincinnati Music Hall (1241 Elm St.) in what its known as “Over-the-Rhine” district.

If you plan well enough you will be able to catch a great performance like “Another Brick in the Wall.”  Notable Montreal Connection:After a wildly successful world premiere in Montreal, Cincinnati Opera presents the U.S. premiere of this “powerful” (Rolling Stone) new opera based on Pink Floyd’s legendary 1979 album The Wall.

Over-the-Rhine has some great little shops and markets and a local waffle shop called Taste of Belgium. You can grab fresh waffles to go for the next leg on the road trip like I did.  (they didn’t last long.) and you can even order online.

BACK TO 21C:

The art doesn’t just stay contained to the gallery, they carefully integrated art throughout the entire hotel, the rooms and restaurants. This includes “culinary art” masterpieces led by executive chef Jared Bennett from the Metropole Restaurant.

EVENTS:

A spectacular place to do a wedding or wedding photos.

FUN FINDS:

I must confess, if I am going to indulge in a candy treat while traveling it is likely be something with caramel,  I usually find the locally made version of caramels or gummies do a tasting while I check out their branding/packaging.(just a thing I do)

So, when I arrived and found this wrapped up and waiting in my room as a “Welcome Back” gift…I was all smiles! The best welcome back…ok bubbly is good too!

AND THAT’S A WRAP:

I am forever grateful to founders, Jack Daniels heiress Laura Lee Brown and her husband, Steve Wilson, who set out to share their wonderful art collection with the public and have now blossomed that passion with the launch of their now, 8th hotel, 21C Kansas City.           (I hope to make this one my next visit)
They have not only made my art and travel blogging more exciting, and enlightening, but have also inspired much of my recent personal collections and gallery exhibitions to be more accessible to the public and to create more opportunities that reach out to a population who might not otherwise visit a gallery or exhibition.
